My name is Country-Fried Mama, and I do not like to share

I bought a muffin on the way to the gym this morning. (That might sound nonsensical to you.  “Why not skip the muffin AND the gym and call it even?”  Because I like muffins.  So there.)

It was a peach muffin, and the woman at the bakery slipped it to me in a crinkly paper bag while Belly was busy looking at the men taking huge trays of bread out of the ovens.  I hid my muffin in my purse and walked back to the car with Belly.

I waited until she appeared engrossed in “Go, Dog, Go!”  She sat in her carseat clutching the book.  Her brow was furrowed in concentration, and I would have sworn she was actually reading had the book not been upside down.  “Why are all these dogs standing on their heads?” she must have been thinking.

I reached into my purse and tried to silently grab a chunk of muffin.  Crinkle, crinkle, crinkle. Damn that paper bag.

Belly looked up, dropped her book and yelled “BITE!”

“BITE!” is one of her favorite words and one of her clearest.  She doesn’t use it to describe what she’s doing to her fingers while waiting for a painful tooth to pop up.  She doesn’t use it to warn me when one of her sweet kisses is about to became a painful chomp.  She uses it as a demand, as in, “Give me a bite of whatever it is you’re eating, woman!  Yeah, you.  I know you have something delicious, and I want half.

We were all in Target the other day and Country-Fried Daddy stopped at Starbucks for a coffee on the way out.  It was a simple order:  Coffee, black.  It took him two minutes.  When he went up to the register, Belly was happy and laughing.  When CFD turned around to leave, Belly started screaming.

I usually get a snack with my coffee.  Belly was not pleased by CFD’s restraint.

My little girl has discerning taste.  She does not yell “BITE!” at people who are eating salad.  If you’re holding a carbohydrate, though, watch out.

I’m hoping “BITE!” will eventually evolve into, “Can I have a bite of that, please?”  In the meantime, “BITE!” is getting Belly instant results.  It’s hard to resist such an insistent demand from such a small person.

Ooooh, my son does this with Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits. And this Mommy does not want to share. Not at all.

That crinkle paper is killer. I lost half a bag of gummy bears once because of the noise that bag made. I was pretty bitter. And resolved to be twice as sneaky. (And I wonder where my kids get it from…)

Yum- Where have you found peach muffin? Used to be at Jonathan Benton in Mountain Brook but they closed and I would kill for a peach muffin!!!!

she sounds just like my dog in detecting the sound of crinkling paper except my dog can’t actually vocalize “bite”…dang dog, why can’t she be talented! I’d ALMOST go to the gym for the muffin, nah, just send me the muffin, and I’ll forget the gym!

Elizabeth, Big Sky Bread in Mountain Brook has them, at least on Fridays. Yum!

This sounds so familiar. Jonathan didn’t say “bite” but he did say, “Me have some?” as he got older and dang it, I had to let him. Children services might get me for starving him, even though I wanted that piece of chocolate cake to myself!

I do not share desserts! My good friends learned years ago to not ask!

Anything you don’t want to share must be eaten in the garage while the kids watch TV. Otherwise they turn those beautiful big eyes on you or they do code 2 and demand.
