The Web is a procrastinator’s best friend and worst enemy. On Tuesday evening, I had a work deadline, I had two loads of unfolded laundry, I had a boxful of holiday cards that needed addressing. But I also had an idea to go blog hopping and share the results with you.
Way back in 2006, Technorati counted its 50 millionth blog. There must be 50 million more by now, and it’s hard to find the ones that might be worth a read now and then. One way I find new blogs is through StumbleUpon. And sometimes I just go blog hopping, starting with someone I know and read, then seeing where I can go from there by clicking on clever comments or intriguing names on a blogroll.
Come along, won’t you?
1.Dooce: Yes, I started with Dooce. Don’t we all? I have a love/hate thing for Heather Armstrong. I LOVE the idea that a woman can make a full-time job out of blogging about her kids, and I HATE that it happened to her and not me. Ugly, right? Whatever. So, I read about Dooce making gingerbread cookies with her kid and noted that she likes to swear a lot in her posts. Also, she has a really nice kitchen. Then, I scrolled through the 100 comments she had on her baking story and landed on…
2. Web Savy Mom: I started to itch when I noticed she mispells “savvy” in her name, but then I saw that her tag line is, “Not quite savvy enough to spell correctly,” so I guess it’s okay. Maybe. Savy Mom Deb, was doing Post-It Note Tuesday. One of her notes was, “Sadly, addressing 50 Christmas cards gave me a hand cramp. Need to export list and print labels next year.” I started hyperventilating about my own unaddressed cards, so I moved on to…
3. Working Mommy: I scrolled down to take a look at her most recent posts and settled on one she wrote about her new blog design. I’m gearing up for one of my own — I am sick of that damn rooster up there — so that was fun to read. Working Mommy had 18 comments about her new look, including one from…
4. Whispering Writer: I used to read this blog frequently but have fallen out of touch with her. She had a funny photo of her kids covered in Christmas lights.
Okay. Time to start over. I headed to Twitter. Someone was tweeting about the upcoming Mom 2.0 conference in Houston in February, so I decided to check out who was speaking. I noticed one of my favorites on the list, Kristen Chase from…
1. Motherhood Uncensored: I watched Kristen’s video about her Diva cup. If you are a woman who has given birth or plans to, go watch this. If you are a man, particularly one related to me, just skip this. You don’t want to know. One of the many folks who felt compelled to comment on Kristen’s informative video was…
2. Sarah and the Goon Squad: I have an artist friend working on something for my new blog design, but I’m thinking of telling her to scrap the whole thing so I can have laser beams and exploding heads. Sarah will make you laugh before you ever get past the top of her page. Her post about her free year of Tae Kwan Do lessons is pretty funny, too. I decided to check out Sarah’s blogroll for my next Quantum Leap and ended up at…
3. Cheaper Than Therapy: I loved her post about cramming too many high school buddies into her car to go to a concert, about thinking her Doc Martens made her super cool, about writing ridiculous stuff in her senior yearbook. I’ll be visiting this blog again. And finally, just to show I can actually read something written by someone other than a mom, I went to Therapy’s blogroll and chose…
4. Tales From the Dad Side: This daddy can tell a funny story, and he had plenty of commenters who thought so, too, but I had to put the brakes on my blog hopping, thanks to my darn kids and their constant need to be fed.
Where will you hop to from here?

Damn. It.
Productivity ruined.
Aaaaaand my Christmas cards are also being neglected…of course they covered me in a fine layer of glitter (not the stripper variety) so we’re having issues right now.
Love this post – and thanks for the blog hopping idea!
This is a great idea and the perfect thing for me to do right now so I can avoid the laundry! Thanks! (and I mean that most sincerely!)
you bloghopped to me!
yay!
