Mama’s Meanderings: Tweeting from The Grand Ole’ Opry

by CountryFriedMama on October 26, 2009

In case you missed my bragging on Facebook and Twitter, Country-Fried Daddy and I went to Nashville this past weekend WITHOUT OUR KIDS.  It was our first weekend alone together since before Miss D. was born, and we had a fabulous time — a perfect mix of cornball country culture, great food, and live music.

On Friday night we went to The Grand Ole’ Opry, a radio show broadcast out of Nashville since 1925.  It was an experience during which CFD and I could not help but broadcast our own little show via Twitter.  Here’s the replay:

At The Grand Ole Opry. Youngest people in the crowd by approx. 112 years.7:10 PM Oct 23rd

Feelin naked. No rhinestones, no cowboy boots, no Stetson.7:11 PM Oct 23rd

The Opry is next to a mall. What’s country about that? 7:13 PM Oct 23rd

Opry has more ads than the side of a bus. Lots of time to Tweet. 7:27 PM Oct 23rd

Old folks love yodeling. Who knew? 7:30 PM Oct 23rd

The octogenarians are climbing out of their seats to take pix of Little Jimmie Pickens.7:33 PM Oct 23rd

The blur in the middle of the stage is Little Jimmy.  He told lots of embarrassing sexual jokes: “My wife and I are like two dogs: I sit up and beg, she roles over and plays dead.”  Then there was the one about how he got a Viagra pill stuck in his throat and had a stiff neck for hours.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Wanna see him with Brad Paisley at the Opry earlier this year?  Here you go:

RT @okradave: Opry broadcast absolutely larded with Cracker Barrel commercials. Wonder if everyone in the audience ate there beforehand? 7:45 PM Oct 23rd

“This one is from my latest album, which came out in 1963,” Little Jimmy Dickens at Grand Ole Opry. 7:59 PM Oct 23rd

RT @okradave: We’re the only folks at the Opry tonight who didn’t show up on a tour bus. 8:00 PM Oct 23rd

CFD is not in this picture, as he is strongly opposed to asking strangers to use our camera to photograph us.  Thus, we have albums full of pictures of just me, or just him, or pictures he tried to take of both of us while holding the camera at arm’s length.  Those tend to be my hairline and his left eye with some blurry scenery in the background.

CountryStarsJackolanterns

Anyway, here I am alone with jack ‘o lanterns carved with the likenesses of country music stars.

If you had mad pumpkin-carving skills like this, whose face would you like to put on a gourd?

How neat that you got to spend some alone time with hubby!

We are opposed to asking others too, we do it sometimes but at least one of us is always ready to sprint after the person should they decide they like our camera enough for it to be theirs. :)

That is so cool you got to have a weekend away. That time with out the kids is so precious. I know that recently since Tooters is old enough and I have a new boyfriend my dad takes her for the weekend and lets her stay the night Friday and Saturday every other weekend. I think this is his way of being supportive of me finally being in a healthy relationship since my divorce, and allowing me some alone time with with BF. But then again it is always nice to get back into the swing of things but with more energy from the break.

Such a funny post. “Feelin naked. No rhinestones, no cowboy boots, no Stetson.” sounds like a country western song.

Isn’t it nice to getaway, just the two of you, for a weekend? My hubster and I did that a few weeks ago, and it was so weird to have an uninterrupted conversation.

Love the Tweets. But I am so jealous. Not about Nashville, just having a weekend without the kids.

Hubby and I hope to head to Nashville or Branson sometime when we…er…if we ever get away. If I could carve anyone in a gourd it would be. . .um….let me think here. . . . my son. That would be pretty dang cool! Just like your photos of the great trip!
